Part 5
After four strange nations and a hard-won compromise, Mr. Grey, Ms. Maysey, and Jodee Coats finally return to grey, familiar Starharbor - only to find the city, and King’s Law, waiting to render judgment. As old debts come due and new consequences unfold, Mr. Grey must decide what kind of man his journey has made him, and whether a quiet pencil-pusher can still choose to have an opinion when it costs him something. The book’s final homecoming, where every earlier kindness comes back around.
Chapter 1 - Starharbor
Mr. Grey, Ms. Maysey, and Jodee Coats cross a vast jelly lake back toward Starharbor, rescued mid-journey by boss Jack York, only for the city's welcome to arrive alongside a subpoena waiting on the docks for Jodee.
Chapter 2 - All the King's Men
Jodee Coats stands trial for breaking King's Law in an elaborate skating pageant on a frozen jelly pond, while Mr. Grey - called as a witness - must decide whether to simply testify, or risk everything by speaking in her defense.
Epilogue
Back at his cubicle desk, a changed Mr. Grey faces the same tedious paperwork and unimpressed clients as before - but finds himself offering small, unauthorized kindnesses, and quietly deciding what kind of man he wants to be now that he's home.
