Part 4

Lost and starving in a country of perpetual midnight where Queen’s Law rules and King’s Law means nothing, Mr. Grey and Honeydew chase Jodee Coats through poltergeist libraries, iron taverns, faerie prisons, and a dragon-haunted wilderness. Old friends resurface, old debts come due, and the strain of the road tests every bond Mr. Grey has built, all while a mysterious Queen watches from the shadows, and the moon itself seems unwilling to set.

Chapter 1 - Dreamland

Mr. Grey and Honeydew tumble into Dreamland's endless midnight forest, lost and starving, and meet a bitter wind and a ghostly parade of revelers before setting off blind into the trees in search of Jodee Coats.

Chapter 2 - Dewey Decimal

Battling brambles and bad tempers, Mr. Grey and Honeydew find shelter with the McDourrs, a courteous poltergeist couple guarding a towering library tree, until the jealous Old Wind turns their hospitality into a chaotic, book-hurling storm.

Chapter 3 - Disco Barndance Masquerade

A glittering, animal-masked barn dance offers a rare crowd to question, until the finders Blackjaw and Slake corner Mr. Grey mid-song, forcing a wild escape by stolen steam-swan, and a costly discovery once they're clear.

Chapter 4 - The Little Sea

Searching for food and direction, Mr. Grey and Honeydew sail a giant tea-kettle onto the glassy Little Sea of Dreams, where a gaunt, cigarette-smoking stranger with an exclusive island resort turns out to be someone unexpected.

Chapter 5 - Reaping

A wandering harvester camp welcomes the weary travelers with a practical joke, an enormous feast, and a life-saving gift, though Honeydew's growing wish to linger in Dreamland begins to pull against Mr. Grey's drive to find Jodee.

Chapter 6 - Tom

Tom and Ms. Maysey stumble into a beautiful flower garden that proves to be a faerie-run nursing home, and a prison. As Tom weakens under forced feeding and endless chores, he starts plotting an iron-shod escape.

Chapter 7 - Grassglass Manor

Drawn to a mansion's smoking chimneys and lit windows, Mr. Grey and Honeydew are welcomed by a peculiar vegetable family who trade supper for a song, though what fills the platters proves stranger, and considerably less appetizing, than expected.

Chapter 8 - The Witching Moment

Chased by a furious Old Wind into an abandoned iron tavern, Mr. Grey and Honeydew find an unexpected reunion with fiddle-teacher Pots, and a quiet fireside conversation that begins to reveal the doubts gnawing at Mr. Grey's resolve.

Chapter 9 - Stone-Head Town

A noose-lift ride up a giant stone face delivers the travelers into a gossip-starved mountain town, where a coach driven by Death, a run-in with the Old Wind, and a merchant's tale of Jodee's visit offer new clues, and stranger lodging.

Chapter 10 - Frogchairs

A stone-tented carnival full of games, gamblers, and a fortune-telling filespex tempts Honeydew's luck and tests Mr. Grey's patience, while Blackjaw and Slake close in once more amid the crowds, calliope music, and carousel chases.

Chapter 11 - Moon Over the Other Desolate Castle

Shrunk to thumb-size by a mysterious potion, Mr. Grey and Honeydew are taken in by a tiny, debt-ridden family living inside a moving carriage-castle, where an overdue cure for Mr. Grey's ailment comes with an unexpected family favor to settle.

Chapter 12 - The Tower

Sheltering in a bone-strewn ruined tower, Mr. Grey and Honeydew finally speak the resentments they've buried since Wine Medo, a reckoning that leaves one of them alone with only a violin, until urgent news arrives from Death and Ms. Maysey.

Chapter 13 - Jailbreak

Mr. Grey, Death, and Ms. Maysey stage a daring breakout from the Queen's flying oven-prison to free an ailing Tom, battling faerie pot-ships across the night sky in a chase that ends with their balloon punctured mid-escape.

Chapter 14 - A Tree by the Sea

Parachuted into an ancient battlefield stalked by Dreamland's dragon, Mr. Grey carries the failing Tom to a field of chrysanthemums for a difficult reckoning, before the dragon itself reveals a secret that changes everything.

Chapter 15 - Jodee Coats

At the Queen's palace, Mr. Grey finally sits down with Jodee Coats face to face, a long-overdue argument about odors, freedom, and blame that reshapes both their positions, while old friends gather for a hard-won feast.

Chapter 16 - Homerun

As the party prepares to leave Dreamland forever, unfinished business, a stubborn Wind, a family of ghosts, an ultimatum for the Queen, delays their departure, until a boulder-comet launches them toward Starharbor under an impossible, first-ever sunrise.
